Guest
Took this bird in Tuscon and initially thought it was a female rufous but am unsure of the ID. Tried to include as many tail pics as possible, apologies for the low quality.
egosnell2002
Shots are actually pretty good I think! My experience with selasphorus hummingbirds is very limited, I've only seen one Calliope, and that was a first provincial record in Ontario... So I'm a little out of my field here, but I think it looks good for rufous. Allen's is very hard to rule out here though... especially since you seem to be in range for both... Guest
Thanks! Yeah it's a little tricky separating the females/juveniles... Was wondering if the tail feathers are wide enough to be a rufous
egosnell2002
From looking in a guide, I would call it Rufous, but I think that I need more experience (or any at all) to really 100% separate them from photos. There's probably other experts on here from the south west that can do it easy...

akiley
If you put this on Facebook, the group "What's this Bird" from the ABA, there's a good chance Sheri Williamson (THE hummingbird expert) or somebody else will get to it and see if you can nail down the ID from these pics. If you have an account, it should help.

TooFly
@Creeker does that R2 tail feather look notched to you?
Creeker
I can't tell. Looks a little blurred
