flightman
The bird on the right seems to be showing a little yellow in its crown, like a GCKI; along with mostly reddish-orange, like a RCKI which I don't think shows any yellow. Which species is it? This morning in Jones Beach NY.
Quiscalus quiscula
Right is Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Golden-crowned never shows a crown that red.
flightman
Thanks. I wish I had a better view of it but it's sorta nice to get them in the same shot.
IKLland
Any other photos? I'm not convinced the right bird is a Ruby-Crowned.

Now comes the usual pang of uncertainty and dread as I start to second guess my ID...I'm no longer sure.
Charlie Spencer
Strong black border visible on the left side of the colored crest, and there's some yellow visible if you view the photo full-sized. I'm transferring to Team Golden. Edited October 19, 2022 by Charlie Spencer

IKLland
Looking at photos on ebird, I've found photos of GCKI with almost completely Red crowns. It's a GCKI IMO.

I saw both species but did not get another photo of that bird. I got this shot of a GCKI 27 seconds earlier. It only shows a bit of reddish-orange. Avery
Both birds are Golden-crowns. GCKI have orange at the rear, and RCKI lacks the black border.
Quiscalus quiscula
Previous ID withdrawn. Agree with Golden-crowned Kinglet for both birds.
flightman
For the record, this larger view does show a black border on the left side (as we view it).
