Hairy and Downy Woodpeckers sharing the feeder in a less than friendly manner.

I've seen only one Hairy and that was at a distance.  I hadn't realized how close they are in size to Red-bellied.  Thanks for this very useful image!

I didn't know they were the same size until I looked up the actual measurements after seeing them side by side. The Hairy measures 8.5 to 10.5 inches in length, the Red-bellied measures 9 to 10.5 inches in length. As the photo and numbers show, there is no real size difference between the two. I had always thought of Hairy Woodpeckers to be considerably smaller than Red-bellied Woodpeckers until now.
