Black Capped or Carolina Chickadee

Recommended Posts

The two species are extremely similar, and often not separable except by voice and range. However, Black-capped  tends to have more white on the wings. However, Carolina is extremely rare in NY, so your safe calling all of your chickadees that are either Black-capped or Carolina as Black-capped, unless you have reasons to prove otherwise.

This. You're in the core range of Black-capped, so no need to worry about distinguishing from Carolina.
