2022 - 23 Christmas Bird Counts

Recommended Posts

I got back on Saturday from doing 3 CBC's in the Estación Biológica las Guacamayas in Petén, around Cobán, Alta Verapaz, and the Corredor del Quetzal in Baja Verapaz. Aside from a long and tedious bus trip (17 hours when it should have been 8 ) to Petén it was great. I got lifers in two counts, including the much-longed-for Agami Heron. Also Ferringinous Pygmy Owl and Gray-Collared Becard. We saw so many Golden-Cheeked Warblers in Alta Verapaz it got boring! Two rarities in Baja Verapaz, Peregrine Falcon and Wood Stork. I was team leader for Alta Verapaz, which was fun. Lots of fun company and new friends, as well as encounters with old friends I hadn't seen for 3 years. Also lots of crocodiles, monkeys, and lizards.

I have two more the first week of January, much closer to home this time.

They do CBCs into the new year?

Yep this one is always usually the 1st or 2nd.  There is another on the 4th I wanted to do, but that day won’t work…because of work.  Not sure I could get away with calling it a “volunteer day”.
