IKLland
What bird is this? I’m talking about the loudest call throughout the recording(not the HOFI or AMCR) today, Orange County, California. Brushy area at the bottom of a dry hillside with oak and sycamore trees. No water within a mile. Thanks! Audio below: Bird 2.wav

But Merlin(I know not to trust it at all) said it was a Hermit Thrush. Once I listened to a HETh recording, it does kinda sound like one.
Connor Cochrane
Could you upload the recording to Macaulay? It's not playing for me.

Here ya go: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/503730941 I believe the bird in question is also the bird making the more chip like shorter calls at the begging and end of the recording. Just, if you can, tell me what you hear in it besides the HOFI and AMCR
Colton V
The little chirps sound like HETH to me but I’ve never heard them give that wheezy higher pitched squeal 1
Aidan B
I want to say weird House Sparrow, but who knows what it could be. Could also maybe be one of those many exotics you have down there. 1

Kevin
I say no to Hermit Thrush, but I can't say what it is. 1
Birds are cool
Sounds thrush like to me.
AlexHenry
Sounds similar to a Hermit Thrush to me (chups and vrees), but a little bit off. I’m not sure. Maybe a weird Hermit Thrush, maybe something else, but no better alternatives are springing to my mind Actually I’m fairly confident it’s a Hermit Thrush Edited November 15, 2022 by AlexHenry 3
