Drew
Black Star Canyon, Orange County, CA this morning. Alcove high on a rock cliff. Does anybody think that is an owl filling the space? Camera at extreme focal length.
Charlie Spencer
I think it isn't a bird. 7

Avery
Maybe a bat?
PaulK
I have no experience but my first thought was wolverine with that face shape. I think that's possible looking at a range map but extremely unlikely of course. Maybe a marmot?

It’s not a bird. 1

Charlie Spencer
I think the only thing here is a series of marks in the rocks that the human mind tries to turn into a face.

PaulK
It's clearly a troll, or possibly a sessile malice (if any of you have read the Sharing Knife books). Pine marten is a great suggestion

It's different than the two photos that @Drew posted.
lonestranger
I agree with @Charlie Spencer. I see a very shallow pocket in the rocks with shadows making it look deeper than it is. The center of the pocket has markings, or shadows and ridges, that make it look like a face of sorts. Those same markings can be seen on the rocks around the opening, they just don't look like a face there. That's how I see it. Although I admit it does look like a mammal, I think it's an illusion.
