Please confirm - Gadwall and Northern Pintail

Recommended Posts

Bird 1 (one picture) - Short eyeline, orange bill with a good amount of black.  Are these Gadwalls?  Picture was taken 8-30 in southeast Alberta (south of Drumheller).

Bird 2 (two pictures) - Plain face, dark eye stands out.  Feet and bill appear dark.  Tail looks pointed to me (but I don't have anything to compare it with).   Is this a Northern Pintail?  Pictures were taken 8-26 in Banff National Park, Alberta.

Thanks in advance!

Looks good!

A good way to identify any pintail will be by looking for a long neck and plain cinnamon brown face (no markings or eyelines).
