Hi. This forum has been great on helping to ID our birds! I have been wondering about these gulls taken in August.    Picture 1. Vancouver BC. with research I’m thinking it’s a Glaucous-winged gull. And an immature. No?

Picture 2. Taken at same time at Tofino, BC. looks like the same gull but has pale eyes so I’m not sure what that is. I’m sure it alters everything. 😀

Hi there. Sorry to make a further request but hoping that I could get an ID on my picture #2. Thanks for any help! I’m not good at these gulls at all.

I disagree with akiley here. The primaries of the front bird in the first photo, and the bird in the second photo, look to be the same shade as the mantle and thus consistent with pure Glaucous-winged Gull. Given that the back bird in the first photo has obviously been stained dark by something (tar?), the shade of the primaries is not useful, and I don't have the experience needed to try to separate the hybrid complex by structure.

Thanks so much for the input! I’m still wondering though in regards to picture 1 front gull and picture 2 gull having different colour eyes. Can they be the same gull? Still learning.
