2023 Year Lists

I might as well get this started. To quote @Kevin from the 2022 thread,

What is your year list so far?

What do you expect your year list to be like by the end of the month?

What was your favorite bird so far?

Posted (edited)

After today's walk, I'm up to 32. Unfortunately, I'm going to be incredibly busy this week and will not have many opportunities to bird, so I probably won't pass 40 until next week.

I saw 35 species. If not for a family thing in the morning, I might have seen 50.

I can't predict how many species I will have seen by the end of the month.

My favorite bird so far is the Baltimore Oriole that popped up at the top of a pine tree as I was getting ready to leave that locale. I knew about that bird, it's been there for a few days, but it wasn't being seen that often.

a whooping 7 here. Not to bad for not really birding at all today. I'll be taking my first actual birding trip hopefully later this week. I'd love to get up to 100 by the end of the month (although in my area that's probably overshooting it, more likely I'll end the month with about 65)

I’m at 49 after day one, I’ll probably get to about 60/65 by the time I leave Florida. Hopefully I can hit 150 by the end of the month.

Never mind, after driving on the highway to dinner I got up to 53.

Ended the day with 48 species. Missed some easy ones, but had to start late in the day.

eBird Checklist - 1 Jan 2023 - Kensington Metropark--general - 47 species (+1 other taxa)

Edit to add that this is one more species than I ended with on the 1st of 2022. I also had 6 gull species that day instead of my singular one today.

Pretty good counts!

My husband and I went to our favorite Sunday birding hotspot and came out with 46 species. Not bad for one location. The place we visited is an office warehouse complex with several retention ponds and it is always good birding. With winter being one of the best times of the year to bird there. You have to love Florida for winter birds but there were also a number of turtles out sunning themselves. They were out I'm guessing warming themselves after a recent cold snap that brought below freezing temperatures. We added 3 more at home for a day total of 49.
