Avery Posted May 19 Share Posted May 19 Just hit 250!! My second ever Black-billed Cuckoo in my home County got me there. I’m 17 species behind last year’s pace, solely because of the trip to the Gulf Coast I took last March. Im doing better than I thought! Also, next week I’m going to be volunteering to do a YELLOW RAIL survey in northeastern VT! Nobody has done one before, and if they are anywhere in the state, that’s where they’ll be. If I was less conservative about my lists I'd have another two, one I'm pretty sure of but that was too sketchy an observation to count, and what would have been lifer pelicans that were just fuzzy blobs on the ocean that could have in theory been gulls (but were likely the pelicans that people have been reporting in exactly the same spot). The lattermost is the first one I've come across in a few years. Took my dog for a walk on Saturday and managed FOY Cliff Swallow, and a surprise Common Gallinule. Then ran out later that evening as Semipalmated Sandpiper showed up. That put me at 180 for the year. The only time I’ve hit 200 for the year, and not been at 180 by end of May I ended up getting 180 on 2nd of June. I'm up to 186 species for the year, and am still ahead of last year -- I was at 181 species at the end of May last year and didn't hit 186 species until early August.
