Birds are cool
I saw these birds this morning. Sorry for the quality of the pics, it was super foggy out. They sounded like a mix between a robin and a goldfinch. They had the two note call like a goldfinch, but the same tone as a robin. About robin size, but flying like a mix between a robin and a goldfinch. I don't know how to explain it. Avery
Sounds good for Pipit to me. For the longest time I couldn’t find any pipits where people were reporting into the hundreds of them, then I figured out that those weird sounding goldfinches I kept hearing weren’t goldfinches… Pipits say “si-sit!” to my ear. Aidan B
I'm not certain, but I'd suspect these are Horned Larks. Those tails appear too short for pipit.

Avery
@Birds are cool look up Horned Lark recordings as well. They sound similar, and I agree with @Aidan B that the photos suggest Horned Lark. The sound description sounded good for pipits to me and HOLA didn’t occur to me for some reason. Edited January 3 by Avery

Birds are cool
The Horned Larks don't really sound like what I heard. Both larks and pipits have about the same size tail IMO. American Pipit: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/269653741 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/271958071 Horned Lark: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/487552141 In the photo, it seems like the tail might be notched. Horned Larks don't have notched tails. I think that they are probably American Pipits. I would love for them to be Larks though.
Aidan B
Try listening to this recording, this is often what I hear when HOLA flyover. Not that these couldn't be Pipits, but I've seen thousands of both AMPI and HOLA (Many of these in flight) and these birds just strike me wrong for pipit. I should of clarified with the tail, it's not necessarily the length, but its the width combined with the body shape in that last photo. The coloration of the bird matches HOLA better in Mt opinion as well. Listen to this recording. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/297822391 1
