VRVan
Yesterday, Woodland Bottoms, SW WA. This bird was hovering like a Kestral but seemed much larger. They have been seen in this area. Also the light area at the end of the wing is indicative of a young RLHA? Or is this another of the endless variations of Red Tail?
Inastrangeland
How I identify Rough-Leggeds is the dark spot on the underside of the wing, which I think is see in your picture. Tough ID otherwise (for me anyways).
Melierax
I'm having a tough time with the overall shape for Rough-legged. The black shoulder looks so clean and uniform as well. I'm thinking dark red tail. Oh - and the pale primaries is indicative of a young bird. I've seen some crazy FEHA-level pale primaries on red tails. I could be wrong though.
