chicago_chris
Saw 2 or 3 of these perched high up on a utility pole in Cartagena, Colombia today. Looked bigger then yellow-headed caracaras, and looks to have a crest on back of head in all pics so was leaning Crested Caracara. Can anyone tell if my hunch is correct? Sorry for heavily edited photos to highlight features. Edited February 15 by chicago_chris

PascalNJ
I think the bill is too small for a Crested caracara. Looks more like an immature Yellow-headed caracara, with a striped tail. Just my personal hunch ...
Birds are cool
@chicago_chris, based on the tail bands, this cannot be a Crested Caracara. Looking a the bands on the tail, and if it looked slightly larger than the nearby Yellow-headed Caracaras, then I would call the a Yellow-headed Caracara. Size is very hard to determine, unless the two species/birds being compared are side by side.
chicago_chris
Thank you! It looked close to a vulture in size but it was quite a distance away so tough to get a good gauge.
