floraphile
05 Mar 2023 Baldwin co. AL; bayside; in small cypress grove adjacent to inundated grassy shoreline. No wing bars, no markings on face (shadows in pic) or otherwise, bland color, bill looks black-bird like in flight shot, but IDK... I timed my shots perfectly to obscure any possibly helpful features...

floraphile
@Avery @Peromyscus I called it an Eastern Bluebird in the field, then made the mistake of looking at the pics. I'm sticking with bluebird. Edited March 6 by floraphile

I'm sticking with bluebird. The second photo pretty clearly shows an Eastern Phoebe. It has a large head, small dark bill, black on the head below the eye, and a white throat and breast. It's proportionally wrong for a bluebird, which appear somewhat pot-bellied. While poor, the first photo shows a white edge to the outer rectrix, which further supports Eastern Phoebe over Eastern Bluebird. 5

That is always appreciated. I am now in agreement with Eastern Phoebe. As an aside: to me, our Eastern Bluebirds appear rather trim and "at attention" when perched .
