Well it was an easy ID so I didn’t think I’d have to include a location and date after it was confidently IDed.

Do you mean waiting for the location and date? If so here you are: Minnehaha, South Dakota, yesterday. Also it’s safe to assume I’m always there and it’s always within a few days when I post an ID. I can’t really bird outside my county and if I could I would definitely let y’all know in the trips sub forum. I guess that’s why I forgot.

I was always told that it's NOT safe to ASSUME. When you do assume, you run the risk of making an ASS of U and ME. 😁

Date and location should always be included with each ID request. As @Charlie Spencer pointed out, just because we read your location today doesn't mean we will remember it from one day to the next. Or in some cases, some people may not be able to remember your location from one post to the next. *avoids looking at anyone in particular to avoid centering anyone out* 😇

I was merely offering an explanation of why I didn’t include my location. I don’t post much in the ID sub forum either so I’m not used to posting location and date. I forgot to post a location and date, then an ID was reached without any doubt, of which the location and date would not have mattered, then I said I’d try to remember to next time, and now here we are still discussing it. It feels a bit like beating the dead horse. I’m not trying to be rude if that’s how it comes across.

I'm sorry @Snake Fingers, I was just having fun while trying to emphasize a point that MANY of us often forget. I wasn't picking on anyone and apologize if my posts came across that way.

While I get the importance of adding location and date, it's not necessary to prod someone multiple times after a consensus of the ID has already been reached. I also find this comment

The reason it matters is other birders use the ID forum as a resource.  An identification without location or date isn't as useful as one with that data.

No problem! No harm done, no harm meant. It can be hard to tell how people say things online, if that makes sense. I do get the importance of location and date I was more of just thinking it wasn’t as important for a DEJU sighting. I’ll definitely try better next time!
