Aidan B
What are everyone's thoughts on this Myiarchus? I thought possibly Brown-crested but that would be unusual in this area of San Bernardino (Barstow Community colllege). No shots of the underside of the tail sadly. Seen a couple hours ago. IKLland
Honestly, that bill looks too short and slender for a BCFL. Also just feels like an ATfL to me.
Birds are cool
IMO looks better for BCFL to me. Bill seems fine for BC.
blackburnian
That bill rules out Brown-crested, far too slender. Looks fine for an Ash-throated

I have no experience with western flycatchers, so I am not 100 percent sure. That's why I said IMO

That's why I said IMO I think it’s missing some feathers around the bill, which could explain it looking “longer”
Aidan B
I've showed these photos to a lot of the other birders I've run into down in the desert over the past couple days, many of whom are super well known California birders, and every single person has said Brown-crested for this bird. Some of these people have been birding the desert close to yearly for decades.
RobinHood
@Aidan B Not sure how reliable this is but Sibley shows a longer primary projection ,four feathers?, for the Brown-crested versus two feathers? for tne Ash-throated (like your bird which also has a very pale throat). I’ll text it to my reviewer, if that’s ok with you?
