UkChic
Spent the weekend in Naniamo BC. A cute small bird with a black head regularly perched on the cables & it's monotonous but tinkling song was incessant. It had a light, slightly forked tail. It looked a bit like a chickadee but was solitary and more vocal. Anyone know what it might be?

gpoole
Perhaps a Tree Swallow. They like to sit on cables and their song is kind of tinkling. Welcome to the WhatBird community.
gpoole
Please disregard my guess but not my welcome. Tree Swallows don't have white tails.

lonestranger
Welcome to Whatbird, @UkChic. Here's a link to more info about the Canada Jay that @Jerry Friedman suggested, including sound recordings that seem to fit your description. https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Canada_Jay/overview Edited June 14 by lonestranger
UkChic
Thanks for your suggestions. I've listened to the calls of all the birds you mentioned & nothing fits the bill. It's song was a constant trilling. I never saw the bird on the ground, just on posts & cables.
PaulK
I'm wondering if this would have been a dark-eyed junco? If you look at the photos and sounds here it's the Oregon subspecies that would be present. They're normally on the ground but do perch and sing. https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Dark-eyed_Junco/sounds Edited June 16 by PaulK Makes more sense than my first thought
