Ok everyone I have a picture!  Long awaited but I work two full time jobs so having the time to sit outdoors with my camera by the feeder is rare.  They are not the best pictures but based on what some else posted I am thinking nutmeg finch?D3BB471A-9753-4888-A281-74B433E5C8A2.thumb.jpeg.104da9350dd61182e2a7e2463424559b.jpegD3BB471A-9753-4888-A281-74B433E5C8A2.thumb.jpeg.104da9350dd61182e2a7e2463424559b.jpegD6B83D8E-444F-4891-813B-443F8F9D3205.thumb.jpeg.fea72dd3611144c54f7fcd5cda7a5590.jpeg246242C2-6CCC-4EBD-9805-D2F4FEA87BF4.thumb.jpeg.79bc72640c97bf76ee01b5fe23577e91.jpeg

So glad the mystery has been solved. I guess my ''crazy long shot'' wasn't too far off the mark after all. ?

@lonesome55dove no it sure was not.  I am glad too it has been bugging me for a while now and I was amazed that no one ever seemed to guess this bird when I mentioned the spots/scales.  I guess it is not that common?

Possibly Scaley-breasted Munia or "Nutmeg Finch" in the pet shop.  Invasive pets that got loose and are taking over.

@Metaquatic thanks for the tip!  Finally found it!  You were right!  Do they always travel in packs like the picture?
