Give me details on what needs to change. I still think this is a decent match (except maybe the feet). I hate to see everyone give up on this!!

birdbrain22
Unfortunately, I don't think there are 20-30 Red-crested Cardinals in Pensacola either.
hbvol50
The only viable possibility are house finches!

Tony Leukering
Sorry, there really is no option there other than House Finch.
Legsrus
Ok everyone I have a picture! Long awaited but I work two full time jobs so having the time to sit outdoors with my camera by the feeder is rare. They are not the best pictures but based on what some else posted I am thinking nutmeg finch?
IvoryBillHope
Scaly-breasted Munias (formerly called Nutmeg Mannikin).
Charlie Spencer
The third photo has a House Finch peeking in around the right side of the feeder. Part of the original confusion may have been due to seeing different parts of two species feeding together.
Ecogis
thats a lot of nutmegs!

Typical finch behavior I guess but there are usually between 30 to 50 at the feeder everyday! Edited April 11, 2019 by Legsrus

I am glad too it has been bugging me for a while now and I was amazed that no one ever seemed to guess this bird when I mentioned the spots/scales. I guess it is not that common? Invasive pets that got loose and are taking over. @Metaquatic thanks for the tip! Finally found it! You were right! Do they always travel in packs like the picture? RobinHood
Fascinating bird and it was on the last page of Sibley all the time. In the second last photo the bird on the left looks like it is wearing a necklace.
birdbrain22
Yes Scaley breasted Munia aka Nutmeg Manakin. They are not native to Florida and are an established exotic(as many other species in Florida). Yes they usually do travel in small flocks, but not always. Finally... I can sleep tonight!
