sbruenjes
I saw these birds today at the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in Galloway, NJ. I'm pretty sure the first bird is a gull-billed tern. The second one I sound ID using Merlin as a Caspian. I cant tell what differentiates this from a Royal tern that was I had ID'd a few weeks back, so I wanted to confirm. I think the third one is a common tern because its beak seems more reddish than the Forsters terns that were also around... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Peromyscus
First is Gull-billed. Second is Caspian. Royals have thinner, longer, somewhat more orange-y bills on average and shouldn't have a full black cap in late July. https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Caspian_Tern/id Third I'll leave to someone else as I should have shut down my computer a half-hour ago. Sorry! 4
