White Winged Dove Right Under My Nose the Whole Time

Recommended Posts

I sent this photo to my brother just because it's unusual to see the Mourning Doves on the feeder. They usually stay on the ground. He tells me "You've got a new species. That's not a Mourning Dove, it's a Whited Winged Dove". I think we've had them mixed in the whole time and I just didn't realize it. I knew there was such a thing as a White Winged Dove <cue Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nix> but I didn't realize they were so similar to Mourning Doves. We're barely in their range, they're mostly in Mexico and Central America.

They're not very active during the hottest part of the day. (Neither am I!) It's been over 105 every day recently. Vast majority of visitors are Finches.
