BlueFootedNoobie
  Hello, This is my first post, and I hope this community can help me identify this bird. 😃 A bird sound I had never heard before... initially I thought it was a kid playing in the laneway with a whistle... went outside to investigate, and definitely a bird... movement in the tree a couple of houses over, def bigger than a robin. Ran to grab my binocs and iPhone and quickly opened up Merlin Bird ID. The app did not recognize this bird sound! I was able to hear this sound for about 5-10 minutes then it stopped. Any help with identification is appreciated! I've attached a sound file, hope it works. Thanks, LA  Edited August 19 by BlueFootedNoobie cant hear file

BlueFootedNoobie
I heard it in Toronto's East End, basically the upper beach area, Main and Gerrard. Still thinking I haven't been able to successfully UL the sound. Feeling like a real Noob. Â

We often have trouble with sharing audio files, some files work with some phones/computers, so often times some people will be able to hear it while others can’t. The easiest workaround is to upload it to another site and link it here (eBird works great if you use it)

Avery
I found some similar calls made by Red-tailed Hawks, which weren’t whistly enough, and young Sharp-shinned Hawks, though that wasn’t quite right either. It’s also possible a Blue Jay or Northern Mockingbird could be imitating either one. There is a call note towards the end which sound like a Mocker to me, which makes me think that these are Mockingbird imitations. Edited August 19 by Avery 1

Kevin
Welcome to Whatbird @BlueFootedNoobie! Don't worry about the audio file issue, it happens all the time, even long time members.
