pointreyesbirder
Seen this morning in Houston. Alders were everywhere, but this one seems a bit different - no eye ring, dark lower mandible, longer primary extension, weaker contrasts. Thought it might be an EAWP. My understanding is that Alder's have a pale lower mandible. But I didn't see the front perspective of this one and the crown isn't peaked, although it is turned at an angle, so not sure it's a pewee. Did not return to the branch when disturbed nor vocalize when under brief observation. Thoughts? Thanks for the help.

pointreyesbirder
@gpoole - thanks for the reply. My hesitation in going in that direction is that it wasn't wagging the tail, and also this one would be the FOS for the county.
gpoole
I see. Better wait for the experts. Note: an EAWP would also have a longer primary projection.
