elkvalleybirders 0
Hello everyone :-) This picture was taken Oct of last year in South East BC. Sharp-Shinned Hawk? Thanks for the help! IMG_6608 by Sarah Murphy, on Flickr
lonesome55dove 464
I'm gonna go with immature Cooper's Hawk... head appears big and blocky to me, rounded tail and I believe the white spots indicate a young bird. 🙂 Of course, as always, wait for more input. !!
The Bird Nuts 4,291
Any more photos? I'm leaning immature Sharpie here because of the blotchy orangey streaking on the breast, the fairly prominent supercilium, the more solid-colored head, and the steep-er forehead. More Sharpie signs: the tail feathers seem to be about the same length, and I'd say it looks broad-shouldered and small-headed. But I'm often wrong on these.
Bird Brain 1,093
Sharp-shinned, in my opinion.
Tony Leukering 2,289
The side feathers are extensively barred reddish, which is close to being definitive in ruling out Coop.
