Tina
Location of this challenging loon is north of Yuma on Senator Wash Reservoir. There has been discussions on Ebird whether this is Yellow-billed or Common Loon by others who have observed this bird but all at a much greater distance. NOTE: Photos taken just before and during sunset so colors are affected. hbvol50
with that big bill, I would say leucistic common. Neat bird!
dred
I agree. Definitely a cool bird!
Tina
Thank you both for your responses. Of course, wish it could be Yellow-billed...down here in AZ but Common is absolutely the most likely.
guy_incognito
Agree with leucistic Common Loon. Those very first photos that came out a while back were intriguing for a Yellow-billed, but as you may remember, Guy McCaskie and Curtis Marantz both saw the bird and concluded it was a Common Loon. I just looked but I don't see any obvious links to forums, discussions, etc. Who are McCaskie and Marantz, and how would have seen their conclusions?
