the age old question cooper or sharpie

looks like a juvy sharpie to me, anyone agree or disagree

sorry forgot to add location and date, not that it really matters with these but taken today in south jersey

I would go cooper's given the raised hackles and graduated tail feathers.  The streaking is on the heavy side, but still within limits.

The notched tail field mark is unreliable as all birds can lose a tail feather, etc., which can make their tails look notched.  The main thing to look for is whether or not the outer tail feathers (the feathers that are folded in front of the tail in your photo) are much shorter than the rest.

Cooper's -- large, blocky head; small eye placed well forward

Sharp-shinned -- small, round head, large eye centered

Cooper's -- bill generally continues slope of forehead

Sharp-shinned -- bill generally juts out from face at very different angle from forehead
