Would this be a good camera for both pictures and video? Asking for a friend. (Never used this model or brand myself, looks good but I wanted to check before recommending it)

Note: Bird photos are not a priority, this is just photography in general.

They were asking for a good camera around this price that takes good photos and videos. (Other suggestions welcomed)

Panasonic's FZ300 is only 600mm max zoom and only 12MP, but it comes with a Leica F/2.8 lens making it a very fast/bright lens. If your friend doesn't need to crop photos of small birds that were taken from the far end of a big lake, the trade off of a bit of zoom and MPs for a better lens might be an option to consider.

Extra MPs are great for bird photography but not necessarily needed for landscape and other types of photography.

I should have added that Leica is arguably one of the best lens manufacturers in the world. Having the ability to use an aperture of F/2.8 throughout the entire zoom range of a lens can be a real game changer for a photographer. For perspective, a 400mm F/2.8 lens for a DSLR would probably run about $10,000+. A 400mm F/5.6 would run about $1500. The value of a fast fixed aperture lens shows in the pricing of DSLR lenses and can probably be applied to P&S lenses too.

Just my thoughts. I'm not pushing one camera over the other, just trying to share options to consider.

B&H has several used FZ300 for under $350.
