owletbird
Hello! I'm starting to honeymoon plan where we can bird on Maui in May this year. I have pretty close to zero birds from that region and I plan to go to Haleakala National Park and the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge but I was wondering if there was anything I would be missing if I didn't do or go somewhere special. It doesn't look like they offer birding boat tours anywhere/anymore, although I may do a whale tour to get out on the water in hopes to see something new. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated as the planning starts! Thanks!
darknight
Hosmer Grove is a good place to see some of the native forest birds, on the way up to the top of Haleakala. The nearby Waikamoi Preserve is also great, but is limited in access. Contact The Nature Conservancy for more info about when they lead hikes into there. Guest
How's your planning for Maui trip? Heard some good comments about native birds around Hosmer Grove as well.
