I know this bird is ultimately not identifiable, but I'm just curious as to what people think this might have been. Seen at Butterbredt Springs in Kern County, CA on May 17th.

What’s ruling out Nashville?

It’s very late for a Nashville in SoCal…although I guess it could be

Glad I'm not the only one confused by this bird! Ultimately not identifiable but I was thinking probably either Orange-crowned, Nashville, or even Virginia's. I don't think anything can really be ruled out though, this was in a morning flight with over 1500 migrants. (Plus there's been 21 species of warblers at butterbredt this spring).

Sadly not.

Yeah, we had one in the flight, and it was the only one I saw the whole trip.

My best guess is redstart(but tail pattern seems off?), but I guess I could see it as OCWA, although it doesn’t quite fit anything. Any other photos at all?

OCWA would be yellow on the under-tail
