Gaucho25
My friend saw this massive bird by her home in Folsom, California this afternoon. She sees hawks periodically but this one is huge.
IvoryBillHope
Unfortunately, probably not identifiable from these shots.
millipede
Zooming into the bird on the tree I'd want to call it a hawk... but don't quote me on that. Size is hard to judge as well. The bird flying, I do wonder if someone could see the profile of the wings, etc and have an idea... I do think species will be difficult on this one... is for me, for sure. I did want to say that the picture of the bird flying lines up perfectly with the wire. Looks like it's part of it or something on the wires. ha... The Bird Nuts
First impression was Red-tailed Hawk based on color (dark brown head, buff breast) and shape, but I can't be 100% certain.
Kerri
Could be the angle but that wing looks really wide/huge to me lol.
Tony Leukering
I'd go with adult Red-tailed Hawk -- dark head, pale underparts
Gaucho25
Thank you everyone for your help! I told my friend your opinions and she was really excited. She also promised me she would buy a field guide and binoculars. Thank you so much!!!
