CoastieBirder
Taken in AZ in July, I thought this looked like a female Varied Bunting.
Mark5
Bump. I also took the liberty of cropping and resizing. I do not have any experience with this bird but I thought someone might. millipede
I've been waiting to see more opinions on this bird. I'm curious. I don't like small brown birds, especially if they look rough like this one from being wet, or young, or? Makes it more difficult for me. Looking in Sibley's, I wonder if it might matter WHERE in AZ this was. The belly and the whole underside is so weird looking here, I don't see streaks to support a house finch... but that doesn't mean it's not one. I could easily see this being an indigo bunting as well. I just don't know. Not even my photo and it still drives me nuts when I don't know. HA... maybe the lack of replies confirms that it's a difficult one to ID?????
akiley
I agree with House Finch. Shape, size, long tail, and pace pattern look good, and the bill seals the deal.
