cccougar
Please help with these birds, gulls I’m pretty sure, that I photographed in South Carolina’s ACE Basin Sunday. Northern Shovelers are in the background. Thank you!
The Bird Nuts
These are terns. Notice the short legs and dark, pointed bills. I'm going to guess Forster's, but I'm not good at tern identification yet (not sure I ever will be!). cccougar
Yes the tern ID sound right. Thank you The Bird Nuts! Let’s see if others can confirm the type.
HamRHead
I'm leaning Forster's as well. Here is a good page on Common vs Forster's: http://birdquiz.net/tern-identification/ Edited March 13, 2019 by HamRHead
akiley
Definitely Forster's.

cccougar
Thank you for all the responses. HamRHead the piece you shared on Forster vs. Commn Tern is very helpful. I pinned it to my bird Pinterest board for safekeeping and future reference. The Forster Tern would be a lifer bird for me too! This photo of the same scene, a little blurry, confirms Forster, right? Thank you all again!
Charlie Spencer
In the photo immediately above, what are the waterfowl in the background? I see a patch of red on the face of the one at the top, and there are white markings on what I think are wings on the bird on the far right. Thanks.
