This is the Coppersmith Barbet, common where I am in Malaysia, south of Thailand. It has a very distinctive 'call' that is a 'metallic' sounding 'Tonk, tonk, tonk' hence the name of a coppersmith banging away at copper pots/pans? 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Thanks for sharing! What a cute bird. I took this photo long before I was "officially" into birding, but seeing this guy on a wire was something I couldn't ignore.
