help identify

Recommended Posts

Please help me identify this beautiful bird. I live in central Florida, thinking that someone lost their pet bird. I have never seen one like this in the wild before. Head is a deep blue/purple chest orange red with some yellow. Maybe a love bird? I have a picture but cannot figure out how to attach it. "Inset other media" does not have an option for attaching.

Since you inferred that it was parrot like, could it have been a Rainbow Lorikeet? They are fairly common in captivity, and it could be someones bird that escaped. Although knowing Florida and their plethora of introduced birds...who knows.

Thank you everyone. I looked at the link for the Painted Bunting and it is pretty close except that the head was a lot darker. Could it still be this bird? I finally figured out how to attach the picture. Take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.
