Nighthawk01
I’m out in western Colorado and I just saw a medium-sized hawk-like bird with pointed wings and a very pale belly. The wings seemed to be a tan color above. Prairie Falcon would be a lifer, and I can’t thing of anything else this could be. Suggestions? Sean C
Did you notice any more details on the Bird?
Nighthawk01
I was in a moving vehicle when I saw it, so the most I could notice was that it had tan on the tops of the wings and on the back, a pale underbelly, and pointed wings. It seemed much larger than a Merlin or kestrel, but smaller than a Red-tailed Hawk.
Nighthawk01
@psweet, could you maybe help out? You’re one of the smartest people in the forum.
psweet
From that description, there isn't much we can do, I'm afraid. A female Merlin, a female Harrier, a young Peregrine in harsh light, even something besides a raptor would be possible. (Regarding the Harrier comment -- I know that they don't have pointed wings, but at the right angle, any hawk can appear to have pointed wings.)
