Palm Warbler confirmation (pretty sure about the Raven).

Recommended Posts

Southern Ontario yesterday.

I know Ravens are very intelligent (I find them fascinating to watch) but I'm not sure how this one grabbed something as fast moving as a Warbler.

Thanks

Whoa.

Maybe it was exhausted from migrating, and/or already dead?

I think Palm Warbler, although I wish I could find my Peterson's Guide with the undertail plates to be certain I'm not missing something.

Thanks meghann.

There were Yellow-rumped, Pine and Palm (plus Goldfinches) nearby so I think Palm seems to be the best bet.

I thought about this a bit more. This location is at the start of a nature trail which for the first section runs between some condos and the lake.

All of the condos have ground floor glass patio doors and many recently converted the first floor deck enclosures from wooden rails to glass panels (to improve the view of the lake).

There is a therefore a high probability of birds hitting all of this glass.

We talked one day about the pros and cons of the traditional wooden railings versus the glass panels. I guess this is a major con.
