On May 15th we saw this flycatcher type of bird close to the Missouri River several miles south of Bismarck, ND. Would you help ID it, please?

Hi juniorking, I believe that is a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher (but wait for a second or other thoughts).

I sometimes hate flycatchers. I'm not great with them...  I kind of feel like there's not enough eye-ring for either... and, yellow-bellied can be quite pale sometimes.

Best thing to do is figure out which flycatchers are in your area and learn some of their calls/songs. There's a few that you just can't tell apart without vocalization(even the experts)

Yellow-bellied with always have yellow in the throat that shows very little contrast with the rest of the stomach. This definitely isn’t Yellow-bellied.
