Wha is this 2 toned grey crested bird ?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm in Lumberton North Carolina.  I have a pair of grey crested birds. They are similar in size to a Cardinal. The crest is black. The tail and wings are darker than the underbelly. This bird has no other markings. It's mate is a lighter shadr of medium grey. This bird loves fruit! what is it?

Not a tufted titmouse.

I have a photo. ( If you can see it.)

He's about twice the size of a tufted titmouse. But he does have a pointed beak. The tail and crest are it's darkest parts. There is no white or cream anywhere. It won't go to the hanging bird feeders.

Thanks!

Yep, that's a Gray Catbird.  "Crest" refers to a tuft of feathers on the top of the head (like a Northern Cardinal's head feathers).  I think the word you meant to use was "crown", which is just the top of a bird's head.
