A Cooper's and a sharp-shinned?

Recommended Posts

Location is Las Vegas. These are two different birds. I read several websites about how to tell these two hawks apart but still am not sure ha. One seems to have a round tail and the other a square end. Thanks!

A few things to add. I agree with Cooper's here.  On a behavioral note, Sharp-shinned generally avoid wide open perches like this.  Also, if you check range maps you'll see that Sharpies are winter birds there, with most of them nesting further north, so they are out of town right now.
