Hybrid Warbler?

Recommended Posts

I have two birds I would like help with please. Both were seen today near Palestine, TX.

The only thing I could find remotely similar in Sibley’s is a hybrid blue wing and golden warbler. The second bird I think is a female Orchard Oriole. Thanks

The bird with the red cap is a very upset Eastern Kingbird.

I don’t see anything in Sibley’s or pictures online of an Eastern Kingbird having red cap (looks yellow to me). Why does it have such a cap? Is this common?

It’s usually hidden, but will often appear when the bird is agitated, to striking effect I may add.

No, there isn't 😅. I also see a light orange cap. Eastern Kingbirds can have a variety of colors on their crown, from a yellow, to an orange, to the most common color, red. I don't know why, though... you need an expert for that!

ok... it shows as orange on my screen but thought that was a light issue. Even though they can be red, orange or yellow... most common is red . I figure it is diet that is responsible for the difference in individual birds as is the case most times with things like that.
