Yellow-masked black-headed beauty in western Montana

Recommended Posts

Found this poor soul on the ground outside my living room window...hit my window hard enough to set off the security alarm, hence the discovery.  Hoping someone can help me ID, as it would be a small consolation for the loss of such a beautiful bird.

Time/place:  about 10:00 AM Mountain today, June 4; western Montana; sunny and 70

Description: Black Head with distinctive yellow “mask”; thick finch-like beak looks green in photo but more wheat-color IRL; chest gradient of black to black/grey to grey/yellow, ending with bright yellow under wings.

Head looks very similar to hooded warbler, but the chest and beak not at all.

Thank you for taking the time to help!  New to this site and so glad I found it!!
