adrian
Nickerson Beach Park, Nassau County, Long Island, New York. June 4, 2019 Not sure if this is a first summer Common Tern or Roseate Tern. Help and explanation would be much appreciated.
Bird-Boys
I'm not an expert on terns, so make sure you get other inputs, but the fact that it doesn't have a very prominent spot on its scapulars (like common does) makes me think that you've got a Roseate Tern. Mark5
Looking at my Nat. Geo. guide I think you have first summer Roseate Tern. The lack of a dark carpal bar (should be visible at roughly 'shoulder' location when at rest) differentiates from Common Tern.
