Interesting. As you probably know, your photo is of a female. I doubt she laid two eggs in the same clutch in different holes, and I don't know if Pileateds are polygamous. Do you ever see the male, and does he visit both holes?
Have you seen chicks in both holes? Maybe one is a cavity with lots of insects and is an easy source of food?
