G_kayaker
Just wanted to drop a note to say I think this is an awesome, well-organized forum and add a huge thanks to you all for everything you do! ?
Charlie Spencer
I hesitate to say something because I may jinx us, but I haven't run into the dreaded 'You're out of Likes' for a couple of days. Am I just not handing out many?

This is all just feelings, with no hard measurements for reference.

This is all just feelings, with no hard measurements for reference. I've hit the wall about three or four times recently. On at least one of those occasions I was shocked to be out of likes. But I was also surprised at how soon I could like again. In the past I think it was sometimes 24 hours. That seems to be different. Administrator
Is there anyway for us to increase the Like's limit, or is there a serious reason we have kept it where it is. We have hired someone to handle this kind of thing in addition to adding and pruning the forum areas people have asked for (like non bird nature stuff). I will let him know about this but any clarification on how it works and what the problem is would be helpful.

lonesome55dove
@Administrator I have not used any Likes/Reactions for a few days so my limit should be at full capacity. As an experiment, I used 10 and on the 11th try I received this message ''Sorry, you cannot add any more reactions today.'' I think the limit of 10 will refresh in about 24 hours...I hope this helps. Thank you for addressing this issue. ?
Charlie Spencer
I would like to be have more for a couple of reasons. If we could 'Like' someone's ID, the Likes number under a member's name would be a more accurate representation of his or her ID skills. Also, if we could 'Like' instead of posting 'Seconded' to agree with an ID, posts would display as unread only when someone added a new opinion or insight. We wouldn't open 'updated' posts only to find only another agreement. This might even reduce server overhead.

That's a good question, one that has been asked many times, in many ways. Perhaps you could find an answer by going to the Admin panel and checking, Members > Reputation & Reactions > Reactions. Or you might try going to the Invision Community Forum and log in with your client ID and ask them. You'll likely get answers as a client of Invision that the members of Whatbird can't get for you. Charlie Spencer
We haven't talked about this lately, so I'm going to make one more pitch for 'General Birding' discussion. This would be for topics like 'Fall Migration', 'Young Birders', and other topics that don't belong in Photos and IDs but are in there anyway. Maybe just renaming the 'Backyard Birds and Feeders' would suffice. Just another bird-brained request. That's as in hummingbird brains, not corvids.

Charlie Spencer
Yeah, there is that. I'll just stand here on the mound and see if anyone wanders out of the dugout. Edited August 22, 2019 by Charlie Spencer

Charlie Spencer
We're using the wrong sport as an analogy, by the way. We should be using golf if we're chasing birdies, eagles, and albatrosses.
lonestranger
Hmmm, I'm trying to figure out how you'd score this one in golf. On par for the course??? Mulligan keeps coming to mind, you know...a do over.

Kevin
I'm not sure where to post this so I will post it here. @Aveschapines It seems that occasionally someone comes along and brings a lot of month old posts back up to the top of the page, of birds that have already been identified, and bringing no new information. To me it is an annoyance because I like to view most of the topics and read them, it helps me sharpen my identification skills. When I open a post and it is an old one and there is nothing but another "agreed" it is annoying to me. I have no problem if someone wants to bring new information the the table, if other wise it wastes my time that I could be learning something. Can it be done where it give us a flag/warning when you go to post on a old topic? Not locking them but letting people know that it is an old post and probably has already been answered. Or something similar. I just want to add I am not trying to attack anyone, I'm sure most of the time they don't realize there bringing up old posts. Charlie Spencer
@Kevin, if you're referring to one specific recent new member, we're working on it. Unfortunately, it appears some approaches that were more ... forceful than mine may have discouraged that member. I notice he or she hasn't posted since yesterday afternoon, which is unusual. "I'm not sure where to post this so I will post it here." Remember, you can always send a private message, as opposed to posting publicly. Kevin
It seems to happen from time to time, I thought it might keep from happening in the anymore, and also keep us from having to ask them to stop. I am not trying to jump on "one specific recent new member", I think it is great that they are excited about birds and want to help people identify theirs.
