Some birds I phorographed in the SF bay area (south bay)

Recommended Posts

I went out to photograph some birds and came across these that I cannot identify.  They don't have a lot of color so I'm having a hard time.  Any help would be appreciated!

@Norseman, welcome!  We'll assume your photos are recent but next time, please include the date.  Thanks!

@Creeker, I'll agree with you on #2, #3, and #4, and abstain on #1

#1 has a little bit of red on its shoulder and the streaking/mottling seems too contrasty for a Brewer's.  I'm wondering if it's a Tricolored since it's so dark.

Nevermind...probably is a Red-winged.

The reason I questioned Red-winged was because I see no streaking on the underparts at all. I'm having a hard time seeing it as one.

Isn't that a field mark of a Bicolored, though?

I definitely don’t see 1 as Red-winged or Tricolored. My first impression was Brewer’s as well. The only other option I can see would be Cowbird, but I think Brewer’s fits better.

I think less streaking certainly is, but not none. Female Tricolored, more or less, still look like female Red-winged.
