French Rooster
Hi everybody ! I would like you to help identifying this bird I've photographed a week ago. I was in the Kruger Park, the bird was flying and I was riding in the car and unfortunatly he flew away before I could take a better picture. I got my Roberts Bird Guide from SA but because of the lack of colours on the bird it's really hard. I think it might be a Hooded Vulture or even a Cape Vulture because of the shape of its tail and of the brown color. There is also this pink head and the white at the bottom of it. The shape primaries feather fits with the vultures' ones. I guess it might be extrapollation beacause their status are uncommun or nearly extincted but I can find anything else. Thank you very much for your help. Sincerely yours. Edited August 2, 2019 by French Rooster adding pic
Trevor L.
I’d say Hooded, but wait for more replies.
NamBird
Agreed--I think we can be reasonably confident that this is a Hooded Vulture. Even backlit to hell, a Cape Griffon shouldn't be that dark. Then, when you factor it the long curved bill, I'm comfortable calling this as Hooded.
