Sandhill Crane in RI?

Recommended Posts

I kept seeing this guy (or lady) while kayaking down the Pawtuxet River in the Warwick/Cranston area of Rhode Island. I think it's a Sandhill Crane? We did see Herons too, but this guy here was about 2 times bigger than a Heron. From what I understand, these birds are not native to this area and it may have been a rare sighting? I couldn't get any closer to him to take a pic without him flying away. Sandhill Crane?

It works for me. That is a Great Blue Heron. One indicator is the stature of the bird... the body is diagonal while the neck is very curved. Cranes hold their bodies more straight up and down and rarely curve their necks as much as herons.
