ruby or other?

Yes, this is an immature male Ruby-throated Hummingbird. This species is pretty much the only common breeding hummingbird in the eastern United States, including St. Louis. Note the green above, dingy white below, fairly long and straight bill, long wings, and black tail. Adult males have a bright red throat, females have a whitish throat, and immature males have a little bit of red on their throat while transforming into a beautiful adult male.
