Red-bellied woodpecker without red?

Recommended Posts

This looks like a red-bellied woodpecker, but with no red?  Is this what juveniles look like? South Mississippi, 9/2/19

Yes, this is a young Red-bellied Woodpecker. Note the bold black-and-white "ladder" stripes on their back and their pale belly/face. While adult males have a red crown and nape, adult females would have only a red nape. Juveniles barely have any red on their head.
