These birds were photographed on August 25 at Guagno Lodge near Quito   (I thought I already posted this, but I don't see it on the site.  apologies if this is an unnecessary repeat)

Fabulous photos!

  1. White-bellied Woodstar (Chaetocercus mulsant)
    1. Males are mostly green above, have a bright white chest and belly, dark green sides, purple throat, and forked tail. 
    2. Females have a white throat, white eyeline, and rich buffy flanks. To differentiate other woodstars from this species, note the extensive white belly.
  2. and 3. Buff-tailed Coronet (Boissonneaua flavescens
    1. Sexes similar. Note the mostly dark green with obvious buffy underwing and mostly buffy tail. Fairly short, straight bill.
